Western encourages and supports employees to undertake training, development and educational activities that will enhance current job performance and contribute to the achievement of their Career Plans in line with their Individual Development Plans.

Safety Training

Safety is the core business value at Western. The Company provides extensive safety training and protective equipment, consistent with the working environment of each employee, to ensure that each employee can work in a safe manner and in a safe workplace.

Trades Apprenticeship Training Program

Western has an ongoing need for highly qualified certified trades’ people who can contribute to the success of the Company. When the Company identifies a projected need for additional qualified trades people it provides financial support for qualified applicants to successfully complete an apprenticeship program leading to certification as a qualified trades person.

Training and Development (How we can help you learn to be the best at what you do)

Training and development can take place on the job, by virtue of the nature and scope of specific work responsibilities and assignments, and in training settings such as seminars, benchmarking trips and/or individual courses. Individual employee training and development needs are identified through the annual performance review and goal setting process and are recorded during the annual development and renewal of Individual Development Plans (IDP).

Education Programs (How we can help you grow and achieve career success)

We encourage employees to engage in education programs that complement their career goals at Western. Each employee is assisted and supported to develop their own Career Plan in conjunction with their group’s leadership.

Financial Assistance

The Company provides financial assistance to employees who successfully complete training and development activities, and education programs.
