Western Forest Products Inc. (Western) is fully committed to the protection of the environment and the sustainable development of the resources in its care.
Management will work with government agencies, stakeholders and customers to identify and address issues of environmental concern in all aspects of our forest management and solid wood operations.
Management has the specific responsibility to make sure systems and procedures are in
place that:
- Promote environmental awareness among our employees and contractors.
- Promote the use of wood products as a positive environmental choice and align certification efforts with market and customer needs.
- Assess and evaluate environmental risk on an ongoing basis to set meaningful environmental objectives and targets and establish effective operational controls.
- Allocate sufficient resources and
environmental responsibilities and commitments.
- Ensure our operations meet or surpass all applicable environmental legislation.
- Establish auditing and reporting procedures to monitor environmental performance; continually improve environmental practices and prevent pollution.
- Ensure this policy and our environmental performance is communicated to the public as well as our employees and contractors.
Every employee from the most recent hire to the President of the Company has the responsibility to:
- Actively participate and work in support of this policy.
- Ensure they are trained and qualified before starting a task.
- Report environmental spills, releases and/or hazardous occurrences.
- Ensure they follow environmental work procedures and requirements.
Success is defined as conducting operations such that we are in compliance with all regulations, renew the resource and meet our customers’ needs for environmentally sustainable products.
