IMPLEMENTATION
Company -> Timberlands -> Stewardship ->

Western Forest Products actively manages all resources. We have many projects, some in conjunction with BC Forest Investment Account and other agencies.

Forests
Sustainable forest management involves more than timber harvesting. Productivity of forests increases by improving reforestation and forest health. This includes silviculture activities like spacing, brushing, pruning, fertilizing young forest stands, and preparing sites for replanting.

The following project(s) are examples of how we manage this resource:
Campbell Island

Fish and Wildlife
Fish and wildlife conservation is an integral part of Westernıs operations. These resources are carefully classified and mapped. This information is shared with the provincial government and other stakeholders. Specific management strategies are then developed to respect fish and wildlife habitat and safeguard various species.

The following project(s) are examples of how we manage this resource:
Kermode Bears
Fish Hatcheries
Marbled Murrelets

Soil and Water
WFP continues to restore watersheds, deactivate logging roads, take out water pipes and seed grass and plants to ensure the landscape and soils are stabilized. We have also pioneered several innovative harvesting practices that minimize soil compaction.

The following project(s) are examples of how we manage this resource:
Mahatta River
Howlal Creek
Klootchlimmis River

Recreation
Recognizing the important recreational value of public forest lands, WFP maintains campsites and trails for the enjoyment of British Columbians and travelers to our province. We host more than 200,000 visitors annually to provincial forests under our care. We also take over 4,000 people each year on guided tours of our forests, fish hatcheries and seed orchards.
