Nootka

The Nootka Forest Stewardship Plan was prepared and approved by the Ministry of Forests and Range under the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA). Forest Stewardship Plans do not show specific locations of proposed harvest areas and roads. Instead, the FSP identifies larger Forest Development Units (FDUs) within which harvesting and road construction may occur over a five-year period. Forestry activities conducted within FDUs must be consistent with results and strategies specified in the FSP. These results and strategies in turn must be consistent with FRPA and government approved objectives for the management of forest resources in the planning area. Stakeholders were invited to provide information during a 60-day review and comment.

The Nootka Forest Stewardship Plan (Amendment ) was approved by the Campbell River Forest District, District Manager, on December 12, 2006 and replaces the Zeballos FSP:

Amendment

An amendment to the Zeballos FSP:
  • expands the area to include the entire Nootka operating area of Western Forest Products, including the majority of lands draining to Nootka Sound, and to rename the plan accordingly;
  • adds minor Licensees, including International Forest Products Ltd., and the Ehattesaht First Nation;
  • revises the format and structure; and
  • makes other improvements.
Following a 60 day public review and comment period that concluded October 30, 2006 the following documents were submitted to government for approval:
