PERFORMANCE
Products -> Species -> Douglas Fir ->

When architects and engineers want the best in structural lumber, their first choice is Douglas Fir from Western Forest Products. Dimensionally stable and universally recognized for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, Douglas Fir’s high specific gravity provides good nail- and plate-holding ability. It’s also well documented that Douglas Fir demonstrates superior performance against strong forces produced by natural phenomena such as winds, storms and earthquakes.

Douglas Fir is the ideal structural wood for framing lumber in residential, light commercial, multi-storey and industrial construction. It is also specified in extremely demanding specialty applications such as rail and road bridges, electrical transmission arms and mine guides.

Douglas Fir dries easily and rapidly, with little tendency to check. It machines well, glues well, and has excellent turning properties as well as good nail- and screw-holding ability. This wood paints easily to a very good finish, and can hold all types of stains and finishes.
