WFP is unique in its ability to source quality fibre from five coastal BC tree species. While all of them are renowned for their performance and durability, each has its own unique properties:
Western Red Cedar: WFP’s Western Red Cedar is one of the world’s top building materials. Its beauty, natural durability and dimensional stability make it ideal for a variety of exterior and interior uses.
Douglas Fir: When architects and engineers look for the best in structural lumber, their first choice is Douglas Fir from Western Forest Products. Dimensionally stable and universally recognized for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, this wood is also renowned for its beautiful grain and unique golden orange colour.
Hem-Fir: WFP’s Hem-Fir is a mixture of Western Hemlock and Amabilis Fir. Like Douglas Fir, this wood is also known for its natural beauty and strength, but what sets Hem-Fir apart is its chameleon-like ability to take a stain and resemble other kinds of wood.
Yellow Cedar: No wood in the world is like Yellow Cedar, especially that from Western Forest Products. This rare and beautiful wood is prized as much for its extreme durability and strength as it is for its distinctive appearance and outstanding workability. Its natural oil extractives make it highly decay resistant and aromatic.
Sitka Spruce: Although not as strong as Yellow Cedar, Sitka Spruce from WFP is another exceptional wood, with a high strength-to-weight ratio and other unique properties that make it valued for unique applications such as aircraft construction, boat-building, musical instruments and Japanese shoji screens.
