PROJECT CENTER

As understanding grows of the need to tread lightly on our planet, so does the appreciation of Western Red Cedar’s gentle environmental footprint. Like all the wood fibre used in its products, WFP’s Western Red Cedar is a renewable resource that’s also biodegradable and recyclable.

However, unlike other building materials such as metal, cement, stucco and plastic that must be mined or manufactured from unrenewable resources, WFP’s Western Red Cedar is harvested and reforested in a sustainable manner. Plus the environmental impacts of making Western Red Cedar products are significantly less than those of manufactured or composite building products.

In addition, most manufactured or composite building materials do not decompose naturally and can spend up to hundreds of years in landfills. But Western Red Cedar, like other WFP products, decomposes and naturally returns to the environment; it also can be reused, whether as beams or composite products.

Western Red Cedar’s natural preservatives mean that it naturally resists decay and insects, adding one more reason why it’s a solid choice for generations to come.
