WHY WOOD

Using wood means using a beautiful, durable material that delivers more strength in proportion to its weight than any other material. But it also means you are using a sustainable, environmentally friendly product that is a much greener alternative to energy-intensive building materials such as concrete, aluminum, steel and vinyl.
Wood from sustainably managed timberlands, like those owned and managed by Western Forest Products, is a resource that is renewed through reforestation. Every year, WFP plants approximately 8 million trees on lands it has harvested.
In addition, wood is biodegradable and recyclable. Using wood is also a simple, effective way to reduce the CO2 emissions that are the main cause of climate change. Sustainable forests, like WFP’s, act as carbon sinks by absorbing carbon and removing it from the atmosphere. While wood products store carbon, other building materials such as concrete, aluminum and steel use petroleum and other carbon-intensive resources in their production.
As well, wood saves energy because it is a natural insulator against heat and cold. In fact, wood is 400 times more effective as insulation than steel and 1800 times more effective than aluminum.
When all of wood’s positive attributes are factored in, it’s obvious that wood is a good choice.
