SPRING 2026 – INTRODUCING
Thermally Modified.
Thermally Modified Wood Products.
DISTINCT. natural. Enduring.
Arriving in spring 2026, Western Forest Products will introduce a new line of thermally modified wood products made from Hem-Fir sourced from responsibly managed coastal forests.
Manufactured in British Columbia using our new state-of-the-art equipment, these products combine beauty with high performance achieved naturally using only heat and steam.
Available internationally through our established distribution network, they will be supported by strong market programs and technical expertise.
This initiative strengthens our partners’ ability to meet growing demand for renewable wood solutions that offer long-lasting durability, reduced maintenance and a smaller carbon footprint.
Durable by Design
Thermally modified wood gains superior decay, rot and insect resistance, while enduring tough climates with an extended lifespan built into every fibre. Warm, organic tones look stunning, stained or natural.
Engineered for Stability
Thermal modification alters wood at the cellular level, making it more resistant to water absorption. The result is minimal swelling, shrinking, and warping, delivering consistent, predictable performance in every application.
Naturally Enhanced
Using only heat and steam, the thermal modification process transforms wood without the use of chemicals, creating a non-toxic, natural product safe for both indoor and outdoor use. Sustainably harvested and responsibly managed, Western’s thermally modified wood reflects our commitment to sound forest stewardship.
Innovating for growth.
Product innovation roadmap
At Western, innovation is rooted in responsibility. We’re developing wood technologies that benefit commerce, people and the environment.
Thermally modified wood is one step in our product roadmap, proof that performance and natural solutions can go hand in hand. Combining science and craftsmanship, we’re building a best-in-class suite of products that showcase coastal species and our integrated manufacturing expertise, advancing a future where forest products strengthen both communities and the planet.
Scalable &
Sustainable Supply.
Hem-Fir represent roughly 60% of our coastal BC harvest, giving us the scale and stability to meet high-volume demand with confidence.
Our operations uphold some of the world’s highest forestry standards, certified through internationally recognised programs such as PEFC, FSC, and SFI, and verified through voluntary annual third-party audits. We also actively partner with Indigenous communities, with over 40 active agreements that strengthen sustainable forest management and shared economic benefit.
Backed by strategic investments in production, logistics, and infrastructure, Western maintains the largest sustainable wood supply chain on the coast and plants millions of trees annually, ensuring predictable delivery as market demand continues to grow.
Standardization & Performance.
The International ThermoWood Association sets the global benchmark for quality and consistency in thermally modified wood. The organization establishes strict standards for process control, product performance and environmental responsibility, ensuring that wood products deliver superior durability, stability and chemical-free treatment.
Western intends to join the Association, giving customers confidence that our thermally modified wood products meet internationally recognized specifications and are verified through credible third-party oversight.
