Western Red Cedar is prized as an appearance product and possesses a show-stopping beauty. The species grows in a spectrum of hues that range from a light honey yellow to a deep sienna red, and the wood is highly sought after for it’s warm, rich look, and deep, natural luster. The combination of WRC’s grain, texture and colours create a naturally luxurious and prestigious product that no man-made material can replicate.

Western Red Cedar is an excellent choice for exterior applications such as soffits. The species’ fibers are rich in natural compounds that act as preservatives, providing the wood with a high resistance to moisture, decay, and insects, and making it extremely long-lasting. It is worth noting that First Nations have used Western Red Cedar for centuries for structures and totem poles, some of which are still standing after hundreds of years.

Western Red Cedar is also pitch and resin-free, meaning it readily accepts a wide range of finishes and stains. If preferred, Western Red Cedar can also be left unfinished and will gradually develop a beautiful, rustic silvery-gray patina over time.

• Western Red Cedar can be allowed to weather naturally to a silvery grey look, or a wide range of stains and coatings can be applied to ensure maximum performance.
• For best results coat all six sides before installation.
• New cedar siding that is going to be finished should be protected from the weather before finish has been applied.
• Allow product to acclimatize to the environment where it will be installed to avoid unwanted shrinkage or expansion.
• Fasteners with corrosion resistance should be used, such as hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel.
• Important Note: Never power-wash Western Red Cedar as it can damage the wood fibers.
